A few days ago, the United States Secret Service posted the bid requirements for a new presidential limousine, which is set to debut during the 2017 inauguration of our nation's 45th chief executive. It's hard to believe that the General Motors-built Cadillac dubbed "The Beast" is already due for replacement, but the fleet of presidential limousines is cycled every four or eight years, with bids accepted from any American automaker. Mercedes-Benz has selected the twin turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine to power the recently unveiled S63 AMG, CL63 AMG and CLS63 AMG, with ratings between 525 hp and 577 hp. But it's going to be a different story for the successor to the SLK55 AMG set to be revealed at next year's Frankfurt motor show. Sources within the Stuttgart headquarters suggest the new performance roadster is earmarked to receive a yet-to-be revealed naturally aspirated version of Mercedes-Benz's new 5.5-liter V8.
Hot on the heels of the Pikes Peak study at Detroit in January, Audi today unveiled the Nuvolari quattro four-wheel drive concept vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show. In contrast to the Pikes Peak crossover SUV concept, with the Nuvolari, Audi's designers have created a classic, high-powered 2+2 GT coupe.
It's certainly powerful: a 5.0-litre V10 biturbo with FSI direct fuel injection with 600ps and a 0-100km/h time of 4.1 seconds means it's the most powerful roadgoing Audi engine ever developed.
